Summary

The IG testified before the Transportation Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee regarding the increasing number of flight delays and cancellation and the outlook for improvements. We recommended: (1) establishing a uniform system for tracking delays, cancellations, and their causes; (2) finalizing and issuing capacity benchmarks; (3) disclosing flight delay and cancellation performance for flights consistently delayed or canceled 40 percent or more of the time; (4) exploring accelerating the development and implementation of the Local Area Augmentation System; (5) focusing on airspace redesign efforts and system choke points; and (6) completing of the ongoing airport expansion projects. Chairman Hal Rogers stated his intent to conduct regular oversight hearings on this issue.
