The ultimate goal of treatment at the NICoE is to give patients and families the skills and tools they need to take control of their lives. Using a team approach and a combination of traditional and and integrative medicine, the NICoE treats patients and helps them regain their independence and understand the effects of their traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions so they can manage them in everyday life.

Clinical Evaluation & Treatment

Patients work closely with a team of providers to create an individualized treatment plan to address their unique goals and needs. Each patient may receive:

  • A review of current medications
  • Exams to identify symptoms and diagnose problems
  • A personalized treatment plan
  • A review of diagnosis

The NICoE offers treatment in one-on-one sessions, group sessions, or family sessions as needed. We also provide reintegration support to help patients return to their homes and careers.

Family Programs

We understand that TBI and PH concerns affect both patients and their families. We encourage each patient’s family to participate in their care, share concerns, and speak to our team of clinicians. The NICoE also has a Spouses Group that spouses can attend to:

  • Share common experiences
  • Solve problems
  • Support each other in their own journey as caregivers

Discharge

Before patients leave the NICoE, the care team assigned to assist them will build a customized treatment plan to address their needs and help them transition to the next phase in their care. The care patients receive at the NICoE will remain with them for the rest of their time with the Military Health System and support long-term recovery.
