Alternatives to foreclosure seminars schedule

Have you thought of refinancing your home, but don't know if you qualify? Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind before you begin the process.

National Mortgage Settlement Update - 11/8/12

"...approximately 7,600 New Hampshire residents who lost their primary residence due an improper foreclosure process between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011 should expect to receive notice by mail with important information about how to file a claim for funds under the National Mortgage Settlement." Read the full press release from the NH Attorney General.

Housing Counseling Assistance

A portion of the National Mortgage Settlement Funds has been awarded to New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority to support community-based organizations that are working with at-risk borrowers on alternatives to foreclosure, finding new housing arrangements or rebuilding credit. The $3.5 million award from the State Department of Justice and the Banking Department was approved by the Governor and Executive Council, as well as recently by the State Legislative Fiscal Committee. The funds will provide a more robust statewide network of counseling agencies and will be made available to those agencies that respond to a Request for Proposals to be published soon. Based on the responses, New Hampshire Housing will select the agencies and post notices on this website.

If there are borrowers with immediate needs, they should contact one of the counseling agencies that are currently operating in the state.

These funds cannot be used to pay-down or modify individual borrower's debt.

Unemployed Homeowners get more time

Starting February 1st, if your mortgage is owned or insured by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae, and you are out of work, you may qualify for a forbearance (defer payments) for up to a full year.  Talk to a local HUD Certified housing counselor to see if this plan is right for you. Read Freddie Mac press release.
