Destination 2025 Performance Report

How are we doing?

Quarter 1 Fiscal Year 2013 results include 21 of our 24 performance measures displayed as Green, each demonstrating successful target progress. Included in these Green measures is a continued Commercial Air Carrier Fatality rate of zero.

The Next Level of Safety goal area is currently reporting General Aviation Fatal Accident Rate as Red as it has surpassed its target not-to-exceed rate for the past three months. The FAA is presently undertaking numerous efforts to analyze the spike in accidents in November and December. Thus far there have been 73 fatal accidents in three months. Preliminary analysis did not reveal any new trends; however review of pilot information and contributing factors revealed that non-compliance with regulation was involved in 44% of these accidents. The FAA continues to review data and generate opportunities for safety advancements. The Global Collaboration Goal is reporting Yellow for the World-wide Fatal Aviation Accident Rate. As of December there have been 35 accidents for the fiscal year.

In the Aviation Access goal area, Major Systems is reporting a cautionary Yellow. The Runway Status Lights Program is in jeopardy as a result of several factors including changes in construction methods; increase in light counts; changes to LED lights; and Corrective Maintenance Staffing increases.

All measures in the remaining goal areas of Safety, Access, Global Collaboration, Workplace of Choice, and Sustain our Future are Green.

Where are we going?

In FY 2013, we continue to focus on safety and meeting the needs of the future, including the development of the Next Generation Air Transportation System. The vast majority of our targets were attained in FY 2012 and the safety and capacity of the U.S. aviation system improved. As we move forward with Destination 2025 to shape the future of U.S. aviation, we know our continued progress towards meeting our performance targets rests upon the professionalism and dedication of our employees. In today's budget climate we face additional challenges with the impending sequester. If the sequester happens, we remain committed to ensuring the safety of our national aviation system while minimizing the negative impact to those who rely on our services. We will work diligently to continue to keep our aviation system moving forward.
