Professional Highlights
•    Provide technical assistance, technology deployment and training in the area of bridge inspection and management.

•    Developed and delivered element level bridge inspection training for AASHTO defined elements.

•    Led bridge inspection and management program peer reviews of State Transportation Department bridge inspection and management programs. The peer reviews identified recommendations for improvement and commendable practices.

•    Developed, updated and delivered the NHI Pontis Bridge Management and InfoMaker training in coordination with the National Highway Institute and contractors.

•    Reviewed plans, special provisions and estimates, and conducted construction inspections of conventional bridges, major and complex bridges including cable stayed, steel basket-handle arch, steel box girder, precast segmental concrete and cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete.

•    Developed and delivered executive level presentations and demonstrations on the Pontis bridge management system software for State Transportation Departments.

•    Developed and delivered presentations at national, regional and state conferences.

•    Developed bridge inventory and inspection handbooks; bridge construction specifications and standard details/drawings, construction inspection/process review guidelines for various phases of bridge construction, and bridge coating specifications and inspection guidelines.

•    Led teams consisting of FHWA and State Transportation Department engineers during the conduct of process reviews such as structural steel fabrication, precast segmental concrete fabrication, steel bridge maintenance coating preparation and application, bridge maintenance, precast prestressed concrete fabrication, micro-silica modified concrete overlay placements, and other phases of bridge and highway construction.

•    Involved in the development and implementation of high performance material standard specifications and contract special provisions for high performance steel and high performance concrete.

•    Designed precast, prestressed concrete girder; voided, precast, prestressed concrete beam; and steel plate girder bridges in accordance with the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges and the Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets. Developed preliminary and final plans; special provisions; estimates, design narratives and CPMs.

•    Reviewed and approved bridge type studies, preliminary and final plans and special provisions for socially and environmentally sensitive multi-million dollar bridge projects. Evaluated bridge type studies proposed for locations with environmentally sensitive areas such as: landfills; soils containing hazardous materials such as heavy metals and PCBs; flood plains and wetlands. Evaluated bridge type studies involving historic bridges and bridges in historic areas.

•    Served as the chairman of the Northeast Steel Bridge Collaboration (NESBC) task group for steel bridge coatings. The committee served to support the national task group which is part of the AASHTO/National Steel Bridge Alliance, National Steel Bridge Collaboration.

•    Served as a member of the former FHWA Coatings Outreach Team that focused on technology transfer efforts regarding structural steel coating performance, application inspection, training development, lead abatement, low volatile organic compound products, health and safety plans, specification development and coating maintenance strategies. Several technical notes, publications and a paint inspection field guide were developed and distributed to State Transportation Departments by the team.
