August 1, 2016: FTA announced a final bus testing rule for improving the process of ensuring the safety and reliability of new transit buses.

January 5, 2011: FTA posted a new program-wide determination on Bus Testing Requirements for buses manufactured on a gasoline-fueled third-party chassis and then converted to a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system.

October 9, 2009: FTA posted a new program-wide determination on Bus Testing Requirements for buses equipped with engines complying with EPA 2010 emissions standards.

October 5, 2009: FTA published a Final Rule (PDF) in the Federal Register, titled “Bus Testing; Phase-In of Brake Performance and Emissions Testing, and Program Updates.”  The effective date of the Final Rule, and therefore the effective date of the new braking performance and emissions tests, and other updates, is January 1, 2010. 

Changes to the following sections of this website were made:

September 30, 2008: FTA published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in the Federal Register “Bus Testing; Phase-In of Brake Performance and Emissions Testing, and Program Updates.”  The public comment period on the NPRM is open until December 1, 2008.  Interested members of the pubic are invited to view the NPRM and view/post comments on it by visiting http://www.regulations.gov/ and searching for either "Bus Testing" or "49 CFR Part 665".
