Congress created the National Transit Database (NTD) to be the main source for information and statistics on US transit systems. Recipients or beneficiaries of grants from the FTA under the Urbanized Area Formula Program (§5307) or Rural Formula Program (§5311) are required to submit their performance data. Each year this data is used to allocate FTA funds to states and transit agencies, and annual NTD reports are submitted to Congress to summarize transit service and safety data.

NTD started collecting rural transit data in 2006. Rural reporting is streamlined and involves fewer requirements than urbanized area reporting. In the past, National RTAP received rural NTD data from the FTA and posted it annually in the Resource Library. The 2013 rural data, and prior years, is now available on the NTD website data page.  Check it out and compare your state or transit system.

Now there's an even easier way to access and analyze rural NTD data using the new rural module in the Integrated National Transit Database (iNTD) system. Visit the Rural iNTD page for more information and to start using it today!

The State RTAP Managers' Forum is a place for RTAP managers to network, exchange information, engage in conversation, and share best practices about state RTAP topics such as scholarship policies, training delivery, program structure, and roadeo planning. These are just a few examples RTAP managers can start conversations about topics of their own choosing. National RTAP staff will make sure that no questions go unanswered, but the exchange of ideas and solutions between RTAP managers is the centerpiece of the Forum, which will also serve as an archive of information about running a state RTAP program.

Are you a state RTAP manager? Find more information about the forum here!
