The Program Executive Office Defense Healthcare Management Systems (DHMS) was chartered by the Secretary of Defense on May 21, 2013 to improve the healthcare of the active duty military, Veterans, and their beneficiaries by modernizing the Military Health System (MHS) electronic health record (EHR) and establishing seamless medical data sharing between the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the private sector.
Modernization
In July 2015, the contract for a new EHR was awarded to the Leidos Partnership for Defense Health (LPDH). The DoD acquired a widely used state-of-the-market EHR system.
Interoperability
Providing high quality healthcare for Service Members, their families, and our Veterans is among our Nation's top priorities. An interoperable EHR creates an environment in which clinicians from both the DoD and VA are able to share current and future healthcare information to support continuity of care and improved treatment. Medical data interoperability requires steadfast commitment and continuous improvement.
