North Avenue Revitalization Project in Baltimore to Receive $10 Million from U.S. Department of Transportation

Baltimore, MD – The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) today formally announced the award of a $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant to support the North Avenue Rising project in Baltimore, Maryland. Under Secretary of Transportation for Policy Blair Anderson joined U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and Maryland transportation officials for an event at Coppin State University in Baltimore to highlight the benefits of revitalizing North Avenue. 

U.S. Department of Transportation Celebrates Kansas City Streetcar Grand Opening

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Acting Administrator Carolyn Flowers today joined Kansas City Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James Jr. and other local officials to celebrate the opening of a two-mile streetcar line through the city’s revitalized downtown area. The line, credited by local officials with spurring billions of dollars in investment as it was being planned and constructed, is expected to serve tens of thousands of residents as well as visitors to the growing Midwestern city.

DENVER – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau joined state and local officials today for the opening of the new North I-25 Express Lanes project in Colorado, a six-mile expansion of the High Occupancy Toll Lanes (HOT), which will give drivers more travel options and reduce traffic congestion.

What is the TIGER Discretionary Grant Program?

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016 appropriated $500 million, available through September 30, 2019, for National Infrastructure Investments otherwise known as TIGER grants. As with previous rounds of TIGER, funds for the FY 2016 TIGER program are to be awarded on a competitive basis for projects that will have a significant impact on the Nation, a metropolitan area or a region.

Today, at the annual legislative conference of the National Association of Counties, I announced that $500 million will be made available for our 2016 TIGER grants.
