• Alaska’s Institute of Technology (AVTEC), located at the headwaters of the Resurrection Bay, in Seward, Alaska, is  a career and technical education center (CTE) providing  a means to a career in under a year. Our purpose is to serve Alaska’s diverse residents providing careers to sustain and support their interests for a lifetime.

  • The AVTEC campus stretches across multiple locations in the community and its training facilities are supported by a student center, dormitory, cafeteria, and housing units for both single students and families.

  • AVTEC stands for Alaska Vocational Technical Center, and was rebranded as AVTEC – Alaska’s Institute of Technology to reflect its ever evolving mission of training Alaskan’s for work demanded by Industry. We started out as a skills training center in response to developing demand associated with oil and mineral exploration and the 1969 discovery of oil in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

  • Today AVTEC is a division of Alaska’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development. AVTEC reports to the Commissioner of Labor and is guided by the actions and resolutions of the Alaska Workforce Investment Board, AWIB.

  • Each of our programs has industry experts on advisory boards that review, recommend and approve curriculum, resulting in relevant up to date educational standards, and placement rates of over 90% of successful students within the year after completion.

  • For more information and greater knowledge of AVTEC, please explore our website and let us know if you have any questions or would like more information about any of our training programs.
