Maj. Christopher Orlowski joined DARPA in March 2014 after serving at the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office as the assistant product manager of the Appliqué and Large Unmanned Ground Systems Product Office and then as assistant product manager of the Unmanned Ground Vehicle Product Office. His specific interests include manned and unmanned teaming in complex environments, biomimetic unmanned systems and technologies to improve the performance and capability of dismounted ground forces.
Maj. Orlowski’s experience includes deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a tank platoon leader and two years as the commander of a recruiting company. During that time, he also served six months as the officer in charge and science and technology advisor for the Joint Robotics Repair Detachment at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan, where he planned, led and coordinated personnel training and fielding and sustainment of 3,500 robotic systems supporting joint warfighters. Before his tour in Afghanistan, he served as chief military scientist and engineer for ground vehicle robotics at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center.
Maj. Orlowski holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy.
