Jeff Marootian

Assistant Secretary for Administration

Jeff Marootian is the Assistant Secretary for Administration at the United States Department of Transportation. In this role, he is the principal advisor to Secretary Anthony Foxx on management and key policy issues and is the chief of human capital and labor relations for the 55,000 employee agency. Mr. Marootian works closely with the leadership of the Department’s operating administrations to drive Presidential priorities for aviation, maritime and surface transportation. He collaborates across the Department to build capacity for technological advancements that both promote safety and aim to modernize the national infrastructure.

Assistant Secretary Marootian is responsible for intergovernmental coordination and serves as the Department’s liaison to the General Accountability Office. He issues regular reports to Congress on the state of Departmental business and management reform efforts and works with other government leaders to streamline agency services and realize cost savings in core functions. He directs the implementation of President Obama’s energy, environmental and sustainability goals for the agency and is responsible for the asset management of 25 million square feet in 11,000 facilities across the country.

Mr. Marootian was previously appointed by President Obama to serve as the White House Liaison for the Department of Transportation in September 2013.  He has over 15 years of experience in the public sector and served as a political staff member at the Democratic National Committee from 2011 to 2013 and as a member of the re-election team of President Barack Obama. He previously held various roles at the District Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC. Mr. Marootian holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services and a Masters of Public Administration from the George Washington University.
