Code Electric, Inc., the electrical construction contractor for the Raleigh Union Station project, has requested a waiver from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regarding the Buy America requirements contained in 49 U.S.C. 24405(a). The request pertains to components of the fire alarm system for the Raleigh Union Station project sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City of Raleigh. The foreign components total less than $10,000. Code Electric contends that these components are not available from a U.S. source.
Before deciding whether to grant this waiver, FRA is requesting public comments. A detailed justification for Code Electric’s waiver request is available here.
