Internships

Working While You Learn

Gain valuable work experience...while you are still in school...and get paid for it!

The FHWA Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service. Eligibility Requirements

Current students must be U.S. Citizens in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.

The student intern may be converted to permanent or term position upon graduation and completion of program requirements.

Veteran preference candidates are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Vacancies for the Internship program are posted on www.usajobs.gov. Interested candidates should establish an account on USAJOBS, and may sign up for email notifications on job postings. FHWA vacancies will be posted under the heading “FHWA Pathways Internship”.

  1. Create your USAJOBS Account in advance. Go to www.usajobs.gov and click on “My Account”.
  2. Upload or create a resume: From “My Account”, select “Resumes”.
  3. Review the vacancy announcement.
