1) Question:
There is a memo being circulated around the Internet supposedly from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) concerning the wearing of uniforms on public transit and the alleged accosting of uniformed service people. Is it possible to confirm, clarify or deny the memo?
Answer:
FTA’s Office of Safety and Security received a transit-related email that originated from a US Army Security Specialist at Ft. Belvoir. The original memo did not originate from the Federal Transit Administration, nor does it reflect official FTA policy or guidance.

I don't have access to a computer and would like you to send me hardcopies of FTA publications. Can you send me the following: FTA 2007 Annual Report, Bicycles & Transit: A Partnership that Works, This is the FTA, Advanced Public Transportation Sytems, Job Access Planning: Challenges and Approaches and Transit Benefits 2000?
Answer:
We would like to accomodate your request for papercopies of FTA publications however, the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 prohibits us from doing such. With the high cost of publishing and mailing government reports, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) publishes and distributes technical reports electronically. Today, the majority of research and technical reports are “born digital” and distributed electronically. FTA reports are also available from the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, VA 22161, 1-800-553-6847 or (703) 605-6000, fax (703) 605-6900, Order via e-mail 24 hours a day: [orders@ntis.gov].
