You can make a complaint in two ways:

  1. Call FMCSA’s toll-free hotline 1-888-DOT-SAFT (1-888-368-7238) 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday-Friday.

Safety Complaints

You should report a bus safety issue you observe as soon as possible, but at least within 60 days. A safety complaint is related to the mechanical condition of the bus (bald tires, brakes that might be faulty, lights not properly operating, etc.) or to the actions or physical condition of the driver during the trip. For example, a driver who is observed texting while driving, nodding off, speeding, or driving in excess of legal driving hours (Hours of Service).

ADA Complaints

You can file a complaint about any bus company violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act such as a bus with a broken wheelchair lift, or a driver or bus employee not offering required assistance to a passenger with a disability.

Service Complaints

Service complaints include discrimination, ticket issues, and possibly lost baggage. Not all service issues are under FMCSA’s jurisdiction.
