The National Highway Institute offers a comprehensive, introductory training course on noise that incorporates a customized version of the FHWA Interactive Sound Information System (ISIS) into the training presentation. Additionally, this course was designed to address State highway traffic noise policies, procedures and practices.
The only currently known training course on the FHWA Traffic Noise Model (FHWA TNM), is offered by Bowlby & Associates. The FHWA is acknowledging that this course is available, but with this acknowledgment, the FHWA does not require or endorse this course in order to use the FHWA TNM on Federal-aid highway projects.
The National Highway Institute (NHI) Highway Traffic Noise course 142051 is available for instruction. This is an introductory course designed to provide participants with an overall understanding of the various factors and attributes of highway traffic noise and traffic noise studies. This course is ideal for the environmental generalist and the noise specialist of Federal agencies, State DOTs, local governments and private firms.
