A summary of the winter GIS in Transportation webcast is now available here. The webcast speakers were John Thomas, Director of Planning with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT); Andrea Moser, Planner/GIS Manager with Bio-West; and Frank Pisani, GIS Manager with UDOT. The speakers presented on UDOT's UPlan, an interactive, web-based GIS tool that provides users with the ability to upload, manage, and share geospatial data.

Best Practices in GIS-Based Transportation Asset Management

FHWA’s Office of Planning recently published the report "Best Practices in GIS-Based Transportation Asset Management." The report, which is available here, provides background on GIS and asset management, describes how public agencies have been integrating the two, and identifies benefits and challenges to doing so. The information presented is gleaned from a literature review and interviews with several State departments of transportation and one county agency. The report also identifies some leading industry trends and new, innovative approaches to using GIS for transportation asset management.

Upcoming GIS in Transportation Webcast
Please join the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for its 14th installment in a quarterly series of webcasts highlighting applications of geospatial technologies in transportation. The webcast will take place on Wednesday, May 9th, from 1-2 PM (EDT). The webcast speakers are Gary Aucott, GIS Cartographic and Data Development Specialist at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and Allen Ibaugh (AICP, GISP), CEO of Data Transfer Solutions, LLC. Mr. Aucott and Mr. Ibaugh will present on CDOT’s Online Transportation Information System (OTIS), an enterprise GIS system that supports transportation analysis that was developed to provide an enterprise GIS solution for transportation information within CDOT.
