About the Supplemental Public Sector Training (SPST) Grant

The Secretary of Transportation, subject to the availability of funds, and through a competitive process has authorized the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to make grants available to national non-profit fire service organizations. These grants serve the purpose of aiding national non-profit organizations with training instructors to conduct hazardous materials response training programs for individuals with a statutory responsibility to respond to hazardous materials accidents and incidents. The SPST grant award amounts prior to 2009 were $250,000; award amounts thereafter were increased to one million dollars.
