About the ALERT Grant
Assistance for Local Emergency Response Training (ALERT) grant funding is provided to non-profit organizations to train emergency responders to effectively respond to incidents that involve shipments of crude oil, ethanol, and other flammable liquids by rail. The Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015 (P.L.113-235) authorized PHMSA to use money recovered in fiscal year 2015 from prior year HMEP grant awards to fund the ALERT grant. As grant funding has been sourced from prior year recoveries, PHMSA will apply existing resources toward its mission of safeguarding people and the environment from the risks inherent to the transportation of hazardous materials.
