Former Security Guard Sentenced for Misusing DOT ID

Summary

Koshin Abdullahi, a Somali national residing in Everett, MA, was fined $2,500 and placed on 6 years’ probation by a U.S. District Court judge in Concord, NH, after pleading guilty to misusing official identification. A former contract security guard at RSPA’s Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, MA, Abdullahi failed to surrender his DOT identification when he resigned in 1999. During a routine traffic stop in May 2002, Abdullahi displayed the ID and a constable’s badge to Portsmouth, NH police and falsely indicated he was a DOT law enforcement officer. The Volpe Center is implementing measures to prevent similar incidents from happening. The case was investigated by the OIG with assistance from local police.
