Highway-Railroad Grade Crossing Safety Issues

Project ID:
CC-2005-060

Summary

On July 21, the Inspector General testified before the House Subcommittee on Railroads regarding railroad-grade crossing safety issues. The testimony focused on our ongoing audit to assess the adequacy of FRA’s oversight of grade crossing (1) accident reporting, (2) accident investigations, and (3) safety inspections. Including, the audit was requested by Representatives James Oberstar and Corrine Brown, and then-Senator Ernest Hollings. We also testified on the status of actions taken by FRA to implement six recommendations for the Department’s 2004 Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Safety Action Plan.
