Summary

In response to a request from the Surface Transportation Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, the Office of Inspector General plans to conduct an audit of the effects of Amtrak’s poor on–time performance (OTP). The objective of this audit is to produce a quantitative assessment of the impact of Amtrak’s poor OTP on Amtrak’s finances. Specifically, we will estimate both the impact on costs and the lost revenues on routes with poor OTP.
