South Carolina Trucker Sentenced for Fraudulent CDL

Summary

Philip G. Hardee was sentenced to nine months in prison by a U.S. District Court judge in Charleston, SC, for using false documents to obtain a job as a commercial trucker. Hardee, who pleaded guilty on October 20, 2003, submitted a falsified three-year driving record and a fraudulent commercial driver's license when he applied for a job at Truck Air of Carolina. Because he has an extensive record of traffic violations, he would have been unable to obtain a CDL. Two months after he was employed, the company learned about Hardeeā€™s driving record and the fake driver's license. This investigation was conducted jointly by OIG and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, with assistance from FMCSA and the South Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
