Federal Bridge Contractor Fined on Bribery Charge

Summary

George Ginnis, part owner of ARGO Contracting Corp., of Campbell, OH was fined $5,000 by a U.S. District Court judge in Cleveland for offering a $2,000 bribe to an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) bridge inspector. The bribe was paid in April 2001 in return for false statements regarding the quality and quantity of work on a federally funded bridge-painting contract. During the investigation, a confidential witness alleged that additional ODOT bridge inspectors and contractors were involved in a kickback scheme in exchange for favorable bridge inspection results. This investigation is still ongoing.
