The following training courses are available to help transportation professionals develop a greater understanding of the environmental laws and regulations that affect transportation planning:

Federal Highway Administration National Highway Institute (NHI)

• Introduction to NEPA and Transportation Decisionmaking - WEB-BASED (FHWA-NHI-142052) — This 4 hour, web-based training offered by NHI provides an overview of the environmental review process, and is recommended as a prerequisite to NEPA and Transportation Decisionmaking.
• NEPA and Transportation Decisionmaking (FHWA-NHI-142005) — This 3 day course, offered by NHI, provides an overview of the policies and procedures for applying the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to transportation project development.
• Water Quality Management of Highway Runoff (FHWA-NHI-142047) — This 2 day course, offered by NHI, is designed to provide a basic understanding of water quality parameters, processes, requirements, and best management practices for State department of transportation staff.
• Managing Road Impacts on Stream Ecosystems: An Interdisciplinary Approach (FHWA-NHI-142048) — This 3 day class offered by NHI and developed in cooperation with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency, discusses the impacts that roadways have on streams and stream ecosystems.

Other Training Opportunities:

• EPA NETI NEPA Training — The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Enforcement Training Institute (NETI) offers several courses designed to help government environmental professionals comply with the requirements of the National Environmental Protection Act.
• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Learning Center (ULC) offers many training courses related to Ecological Laws and Regulations. Topics include Environmental Laws & Regulations and Environmental Regulation Practical Application. • Training Courses pertaining to Ecosystem Ecological Laws and Regulations are available through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). Course topics include Migratory Bird Conservation, Endangered Species Recovery Planning and Implementation, and Interagency Consultation for Endangered Species.
