Summary

On May 12, 2015, an indictment was filed in U.S. District Court, Indianapolis, Indiana, charging Alexander Singleton with fraudulently obtaining more than $97,000 in veteran's benefits from the U.S. Veteran's Administration (VA). Singleton is employed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Supervisory Aviation Technical Specialist at the Memphis Air Traffic Control Center, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was previously arrested on April 15, 2015, based on similar charges.

This investigation began after the VA Regional Office (VARO), Indianapolis, Indiana, discovered that Singleton applied for and received VA Individual Unemployability (IU) benefits while concurrently employed as a full-time federal employee. On or about April 8, 2008, Singleton allegedly submitted a false IU claim to the VA, indicating he last worked full-time on July 15, 2007. Singleton allegedly provided additional false documents and statements to the VA in support of his claim. In coordination with the VA, the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Interior's National Business Center, we discovered that Singleton had been a full time employee of the FAA since March 2, 2008. Based on his full-time, continuous employment, VARO determined that he was not eligible for IU benefits. The VA had paid him over $97,000 which he was not eligible to receive.
