Summary

On April 6, 2015, Arnold Williams was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Raleigh, North Carolina, for false statements on a commercial driver employment application. Williams, who had been in federal custody for over six months, was sentenced to time served. After sentencing, Williams was transferred to the custody of South Carolina authorities to await trial on State charges related to a January 2013 fatal truck accident. When Williams is released from South Carolina custody, he will serve the remainder of his federal sentence which includes three years of supervised release. During this time, Williams is not allowed to hold a commercial driver's license. 

The investigation determined that in January 2013, Williams was charged by the North Charleston, South Carolina, Police Department with reckless homicide and possessing an open alcohol beverage container. The arrest followed the crash of Williams’ tractor trailer which resulted in one fatality and three injuries. As a result of the accident, Williams was terminated as a driver by his employer in February 2013. In April 2013, Williams applied to work as a truck driver for a North Carolina based trucking company and was subsequently hired. Per FMCSA regulations, drivers are required to list all previous accidents on driver employment applications, but Williams lied on his application when he failed to disclose the January 2013 fatal accident.
