Tennessee Man Sentenced for Making a False Statement

Summary

On July 30, 2014, Thomas Lee Overton was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Knoxville, Tennessee, to 36 months probation and ordered to pay $128,000 in restitution. Overton previously pleaded guilty to making a false statement.

Overton, owner of J and T Flying Service, Inc., submitted falsified bills of sale for two helicopters that reflected that he purchased them from private individuals, when in fact he purchased them from salvage yards. One helicopter was involved in a crash and the other received extensive fire damage. By falsifying the documents, Overton attempted to conceal the aircrafts’ damage history.

This investigation was conducted with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.
