Sentencings in Airbag Case

Summary

Valerie Enrique of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Airbags Express, Inc. of Davie, FL were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Miami as a result of the January conviction on charges of illegally transporting hazardous materials by air. Enrique and the corporation illegally shipped automobile airbags and igniting devices, to a freight forwarder for scheduled shipment by air carrier without properly labeling the hazardous materials as required by DOT regulations. Enrique received 3 years' probation, 150 hours' community service, and a $500 fine. Airbags Express, Inc. was fined $10,000 and placed on 5 years' probation. OIG investigated this case with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the Miramar Police Department and the FBI.
