Helicopter Pilot Pleads Guilty to False Statement

Summary

James Ian Stanley Innes pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City, UT, to charges of making a false statement to the FAA. On July 11, 1996, two passengers hired Innes to fly them from Salt Lake City to Manila, UT. At the time of the flight Innes possessed a Private Pilot Certificate, which by Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) prohibited Innes from acting as "pilot-in-command" of an aircraft carrying passengers for compensation. Innes entered the name of another pilot on the aircraft flight logs and forged the pilot's name in a letter to the FAA. Sentencing is scheduled for June 4.
