Sentencing for Fraudulent Repairs on USCG Gyroscopes

Summary

Natarajan Narayanan, president of Naras Aviation, a Miami aviation repair facility was fined $250,000 in U.S. District Court in Miami and placed on home confinement for 120 days for making false claims regarding modifications of aircraft gyroscopes for the Coast Guard. Narayanan and his company pleaded guilty in January to repairing Coast Guard gyroscopes with used, unairworthy parts but billed the Coast Guard for new parts. Gyroscopes are part of an airplane's guidance and navigation system. The company was also ordered to hire an outside independent aviation consultant to audit its operations. OIG and DCIS investigated the case with assistance from the Quality Assurance Section of the USCG Aircraft Repair and Supply Command in Elizabeth City, NC.
