Foreman of Household Goods Moving Company Jailed

Summary

A former moving company supervisor was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Miami, FL to 20 months in prison and ordered to make restitution totaling $780,543 to more than 250 victims in a major household goods moving scam in South Florida. Ramon DelValle, a former foreman of All American Van Lines of Pembroke Park, FL, also received 3 years of supervised release subsequent to his guilty plea to conspiracy and tariff violation charges. DelValle and four other co-defendants induced victims to contract for household goods moving and shipping services and subsequently charged significantly higher "hidden costs" associated with the shipment of their goods. The defendants then held the goods as "ransom" and, in some cases, never returned the victims' belongings. OIG conducted this investigation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, FBI, INS, and with assistance from the FMCSA.
