Hazmat Violator Agrees to Pretrial Diversion

Summary

Neil C. Bentley, vice president of Bentley & Associates LLC in Huntsville, AL was placed in a pretrial diversion program for violating federal laws governing the transportation of hazardous material. Bentley pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of transporting methylene chloride without properly declaring the toxic chemical on shipping documents. Under the terms of the agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama, charges against Bentley will be dropped in 18 months, provided he does not violate and Federal, state, or local laws. In December 2000 and January 2001, three employees of B&A entered guilty pleas to the same offenses and were placed in pretrial diversion programs. This case was investigated by DOT-OIG, NASA-OIG and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigations Division.
