Truck Driving School Instructor Jailed for Bribing Examiners

Summary

Alex McLeczynsky, a truck-driving school instructor was sentenced to 30 months in prison by a U.S. District Court judge in Chicago for his role in Operation Safe Roads, an ongoing investigation of the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, which issues commercial drivers licenses (CDLs) in Illinois. Unqualified CDL applicants would pay McLeczynsky up to $1,000 in order to pass the written portion of the CDL examination. McLeczynsky would then bribe CDL examiners to ensure the applicants would get passing grades. Federal safety regulations require truck drivers to pass a written and driving test to ensure they are capable of safely operating the vehicle and complying with all applicable rules of the road. Operation Safe Road is a joint investigative effort by OIG, FBI, Postal Inspection Service, the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Illinois State Police.
