Florida Freight Company Sentenced in Hazmat Pollution Case

Summary

Liliana Guzman-Haynes, President, Olympic International Freight Forwarders, Inc., (OIFF) was sentenced in U.S District Court in Miami, FL, after being convicted of illegally storing hazardous wastes. An investigation of the dumping of extensive amounts of toxic chemicals such as acids, carcinogens, and poisons in western Dade County, traced the chemicals to OIFF. Guzman-Haynes received 6 month's home confinement, 2 years probation, and ordered to pay restitution of $29,095. The OIG investigation was conducted jointly with EPA-CID, Miami-Dade Police Department, the Dade County Environmental Resources Management Department, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
