Argenbright Holdings Limited was placed on 36 months’ probation and ordered by a U.S. District Court judge in Philadelphia to pay a $1 million fine, $350,000 in restitution and $200,000 in investigative costs, for failing to conduct background checks on employees staffing security checkpoints at the Philadelphia Airport between 1995 and 1999. Steven Saffer, former district manager for Argenbright, was sentenced on October 20 to 30 months’ incarceration for falsely certifying to the FAA that training and background checks of 1,300 security checkers at Philadelphia had been completed. Argenbright employee Sandra Lawrence was fined $15,000 and placed on 60 months’ probation. As a result, Argenbright hired convicted felons and improperly trained workers to provide airport security. OIG investigated this case with the FAA.
