Former Cargo Handler Pleads Guilty in Miami Airport Security Case

Summary

Jorge Armando Vinasco, a foreign national who worked as a cargo handler at Miami International Airport (MIA), pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami, FL, to charges of obtaining a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge under false pretenses. Vinasco is the seventh of 12 illegal aliens who have pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining false SIDA badges. The badges gave the defendants access to secure areas at MIA. Since his arrest on September 20, Vinasco has been in jail, where he will remain until he is deported. OIG investigated this case with the U.S. Customs Service.
