Man Jailed for Using False FAA Mechanics License

Summary

Derek Randall Hicks, of Merced, CA, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Fresno, CA, to two counts of signing off on airworthiness records for Boeing-737 jets when he was not qualified to do so. He also admitted to making false statements when he used a fraudulent FAA mechanic’s license to obtain employment as a certified FAA aircraft mechanic specializing in power-plant hydraulics. Hicks performed maintenance on aircraft that carried professional sports teams, such as the Sacramento Kings basketball team and the San Jose Sharks hockey team. He was sentenced to 2 months in jail and 2 years supervised release.
