Former Uncertified Airline Mechanic Sentenced

Summary

Michaele S. Durgini of Everett, WA was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release by a U.S. District Court judge in Seattle. Durgini, who was employed by Continental Airlines from 1992 to 2000, pleaded guilty on June 5. He was charged with making false statements to the FAA for presenting a false FAA airframe and powerplant mechanic's certificate when he applied for employment with the airline, and inspecting and repairing aircraft and signing maintenance logs even though he was not certified to do so. OIG was assisted in this investigation by the FAA.
