Trucker Who Falsified Hours-of-Service Logs Jailed for Causing Two Deaths

Summary

Ivan Wayne Jones of Montevallo, AL, was sentenced to 5 to 23 months in jail and 200 hours of community service after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas in Allentown, PA. Jones falsified his hours-of-service logs when he had been behind the wheel more than 14 hours at the time of the accident. The case involved a September 1999 four-truck crash in which Jones, who was driving for Continental Express Inc. of Oklahoma, slammed into the back of a dump truck. The impact caused the dump truck to jump a concrete barrier into oncoming traffic where it collided with another tractor-trailer, killing both drivers. OIG and the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the case.
