Aircraft Parts Inspector Sentenced for False Certifications on Aircraft Part Repairs

Summary

Carlos L. Marchini, former general manager and chief inspector for Marchini Instruments, Inc., Miami, FL, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Miami to 10 months’ imprisonment and restitution of $12,852 for falsely certifying the airworthiness of unapproved aircraft parts, thereby allowing their use aboard military and civilian aircraft. The company’s FAA license to repair and certify aircraft instruments was suspended in April 2001 when FAA learned that Marchini was issuing airworthiness certificates for parts not on FAA’s approved list.
