Former DC Public Works Employee Sentenced for Accepting Bribes

Summary

Carl Bailey, a former plant inspector for the District of Columbia Department of Public Works, was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge in Washington, DC, to pay $1,200 in restitution and spend 6 months on home confinement for receiving bribes. Bailey pleaded guilty in March 2001 to accepting bribes from a local paving contractor in exchange for falsely certifying that a certain number of trucks were filled with paving material for delivery to a job site. The city, which received FHWA funding, was billed for the fraudulent services. The investigation is ongoing.
