Fifth Defendant in Airport Baggage Theft Case Pleads Guilty

Summary

Javier Munoz of Miami, FL, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami to charges of using his airport security badge to steal items from the luggage of British Airways passengers at Miami International Airport. Munoz was employed as a ramp agent with Aircraft Services International, which contracted with British Airways to load and unload passengers’ luggage and belongings. He was one of six defendants arrested by OIG, U.S. Customs Service, and Miami-Dade Police Department on December 11, 2002. Five defendants have pleaded guilty, and the remaining defendant is scheduled for trial February 24. Munoz is scheduled for sentencing on April 21.
