Miami Household Goods Movers Plead Guilty to Defrauding Public

Summary

Four employees of Majesty Moving & Storage of Miami, FL, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami to extortion and making false bills of lading in order to defraud customers. The defendants? scheme involved giving customers ?low ball? moving estimates, inflating the charges once the household goods were loaded, and then withholding the possessions from delivery until the customer paid the inflated charges. The defendants incuded Guy Kalev and Shimon Buhdana, both of whom were drivers and foremen, and Shanni Humphreys and Timna Levy, who were sales representatives. The case involved an undercover operation that resulted in charges against 16 companies and 74 individuals in Miami who victimized 424 customers. To date, 58 individuals have been arrested. The defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on October 22. This investigation was conducted jointly by OIG, the FBI, and FMCSA.
