Summary

One mover was sentenced on September 26 and another pleaded guilty on September 24 in U.S. District Court in Miami, FL, in the continuing household goods mover case against Majesty Moving & Storage of Sunrise, FL. Assaf Khuri, a foreman and driver, was sentenced to seven months in jail and must surrender to immigration officials for deportation proceedings after completing his prison term. The second employee, Nissim Edri, was also a foreman and driver. Both Khuri and Edri were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, extortion, and making false bills of lading.



The case involves a scheme to defraud moving customers by giving them “low ball” estimates, then inflating the charges once the household goods were loaded. This undercover operation resulted in charges against 16 companies and 74 individuals who victimized 424 customers. To date, 58 individuals have been arrested. The investigation was conducted by OIG, the FBI, and FMCSA.
