Summary

Shay Cohen, a foreman and driver for Majesty Moving & Storage of Sunrise, FL, was sentenced by a U.S District Court judge in Miami to 10 months in jail and ordered to pay $27,485 in restitution. Cohen pleaded guilty in September to charges of conspiracy in a scheme to extort large sums from moving customers by holding their possessions hostage. He is the third employee of Majesty Moving & Storage to be sentenced in the scheme; eight additional employees are scheduled to be sentenced in November and December. When Cohen completes his prison term, he will be turned over to immigration officials for possible deportation to Israel. This undercover investigation, conducted jointly by OIG and the FBI with assistance from FMCSA, resulted in charges in March against 16 companies and 74 individuals in Miami who victimized 424 customers.
