Illinois Driving School Owner Sentenced in Licensing Payoff Scheme

Summary

Lidia A. Rodezno, owner and instructor of the Reliable Driving School, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Chicago, to three years’ probation for extortion. Rodezno had plead guilty in July 1, 2004 to conspiracy to commit extortion for paying bribes to Fernando Murillo, supervisor at an Illinois Secretary of State driver’s license facility, in order to pass at least 45 unqualified commercial drivers’ license (CDL) applicants in 2003 and 2004. Murillo, no longer employed by the IL Secretary of State, was sentenced on September 10, 2004 to 15 months in prison for accepting the bribes. This case was investigated by the OIG, U.S. Postal Service, and the Illinois Secretary of State Inspector General.
