Florida Freight Forwarder Fined $135,000 for Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Violations

Summary

On May 10, Laparkan Trading Limited Company (Laparkan), Miami, FL, was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge in Miami to pay $135,000 in fines and community service payments for the illegal transportation of HazMat. On March 1, 2005, Laparkan pled guilty to willfully offering HazMat (e.g., phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, and potassium hydroxide) for transportation. Seaboard Marine, Ltd. in Miami, which had first transported the leaking HazMat cargo to Laparkan for inspection and inventorying, was sentenced on May 4, 2005 to pay $305,000. The investigation was conducted jointly with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Miami-Dade Police Department, with assistance from FMCSA.
