Tennessee Paving and Construction Company Agrees to Pay $51,000 to Settle Allegations of False Claims

Summary

On December 9, Ford Construction Company (FC Co.), Dyersburg, TN, agreed to a $51,000 civil settlement of claims that the firm had submitted fraudulent jack calibration reports to the Tennessee DOT (T-DOT) on multiple federally-funded highway construction projects. Jacks are used in performing load tests on pilings used in bridge construction, and FC Co. was contractually required to conduct load tests with calibrated jacks. Investigation found that FC Co. submitted five fraudulent jack calibration reports associated with load tests performed in 2000, for which T-DOT had paid $25,500. While not admitting the Government contentions, FC Co. agreed to pay twice that amount under the settlement agreement reached with the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Western District of Tennessee.
